In this film, Ms. Triveni, the Lead of Sunadha, introduces us to their Samarthanam Institute of Music and Performing Arts (SIMPA) initiative. Affiliated with Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University in Mysore, SIMPA offers certificate courses, diplomas, and a three-year Bachelor of Performing Arts degree. SIMPA is not just about teaching music and dance but about transforming lives, turning artists into contributing members of society.

It’s a brand new initiative of Samarthanam after completing 25 years of the art and cultural wing, that is called Sunadha.

Sunadha, since 25 years, uh, they’ve been performing across India, and even in the abroad platforms like US, UK, Italy and Germany.

They have completed more than 3,800 performances in all genres, like, starting from the classical to folk.

So we have a music band where we have a troupe of musicians, singers, instrument players, everyone performing and we have dance troupe.

All are classically trained with Bharatnatyam and the folk kind of dances.

So after completing successful 25 years, all are so trained and they are so capable that they can be a trainer.

So, Samarthanam always supporting the artist for their dignified livelihood, not just the   livelihood.

And music and dance is the one means where they can portray a inclusion society, they can definitely be a very important part of inclusion society.

So based on that motivation, uh so, our Founder Secretary Dr. Mahantesh sir was so keenly interested to start an institute of aca-uh, music academy.

So we took an affiliation with Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal University, Mysore.

And we are now affiliated to conduct, uh, certificate courses which is of 6 months, diploma course of 1 year, and degree that is BPA, Bachelor of Performing Arts for 3 years.

So this course in Carnatic vocal music, Hindustani vocal music, and the Bharatnatyam dance kind of.

And also we are giving, uh, alternate training with the instrument.

So, that may be not as a certificate course, but whoever is interested to learn the instrument play and all, even they can come and learn here.

So it’s an open platform for everyone, but special consideration for the disabled community, where we give them the accommodation facility if somebody is interested to learn music and dance from outer states or outer place, so we give them accommodation also.

With the support and encouragement that art and culture should lead their life to a very, uh, extended and dignified life.

As to, uh, reach the vision of our institution, that is our Secretary Sir always wanted to highlight the vision that every individual, uh, person with disability should be transformed as a potential taxpayer, not as just a dual resident.

So with that vision, we are going ahead with SIMPA, that is Samarthanam Institute of Music and Performing Arts.

In Sunadha the artists are not just part time artists only that is they are brought in only during the programs.

It is a complete full-time job for them, so they are the employees of Samarthanam like anybody other department.

Even like I am paid, they are paid.

So it’s a complete job for them.
