Ever wondered how a book transforms into Braille?
At the Central Braille Press, Dehradun, words are carefully edited, translated, embossed, and bound into books that can be read by touch – each step ensuring knowledge reaches people who read with their fingertips.

We are talking about Braille books here, which are made for people who are blind.
First, when we make Braille books, we need a newly printed book for that.
To convert it into a Braille book, we do the editing of that book first.
In editing, we have to select the necessary content by ticking it.
After editing, that data goes to the data entry section, that is, the STO room.
There, it goes through the process of embossing, done through STO.
We scan the books to make a soft copy of it, or if the soft copy is available, we can easily convert the book into Braille.
This is the Duxbury Braille Translator software.
I had picked a text from the print material.
That matter…. I took that matter and……on the software…..on the Duxbury Braille Translator software…i copy pasted it and at a click of a button, converted it.
The matter is now converted in Braille.
Whatever mistakes are there in it will be corrected manually.

This is our Central Braille Press, and here, apart from books for NCERT and the Braille books of the state of UP (Uttar Pradesh), large print books are also printed and are made available to children.
Apart from this music books and dummy ballots – which are provided at the time of election – and EPIC cards are made here and are provided, whenever they are required at the time of elections.
We also print scriptures, like Atharvaveda, Yajurveda, Gita, Ramayana, Sundar Kand, besides their printed copies, the Braille versions are also available.
Along with that, they also have QR codes which allows you to listen to the books in the NCERT syllabus of any state, scriptures like Sundar Kand etc. or the Hanuman Chalisa also have QR codes. You can scan the Qr code and listen to them too.
